I have been interested in the Ellis family for some time now. I never met my grandfather as he died during world war two. As I began to research his ancestors I realised that were not originally from Yorkshire but had come across from Ireland in 1839 and first settled in Kent.
A tale of three coastguards – or three coastguard biographies for the Ellis family
I have written short biographies for three of my ancestors: Francis Ellis, my great great great grandfather and two of his sons: Francis Ellis, my great great grandfather and his brother Robert; all three of whom served in the coastguard service. Each biography is written as self contained pieces and in some cases includes some interesting connections with the current day and my own immediate family.
Note: the image on this page is the war memorial in Fulford Church, Yorkshire which features my grandfather’s name.
